If you think you may have rotator cuff tendonitis there is a quick way to tell.

Do you have pain when lifting your arm overhead or to the side? Rotator cuff tendonitis is different from a rotator cuff tear.

With a rotator cuff tear you will have difficulty raising your arm through full range of motion overhead or behind your back.

With rotator cuff tendonitis you will be able to take your arm through full range but with pain.

Point tenderness on the side or front of your shoulder can indicate rotator cuff tendinitis as well. This area on your shoulder may also be slightly swollen and red.

ice and rest is usually the best course of action and then to follow a routine that balances your shoulder joint with strength and stretch exercises as indicate in our course.

Rotator Cuff Tendonitis is a wake up call that your shoulder is giving you, pay attention to the symptoms of your shoulder pain and make sure you get it under control to avoid permanent long term damage like a cuff tear or arthiritis.

The shoulder pain begins under your right shoulder blade and seems to be radiating out. The shoulder pain can also be mild and feels like a knotted muscle. Right shoulder pain can also be severe and may leave the patient struggling to breathe because of the intense pain. If you are experiencing this type of shoulder pain, see your doctor or go to a hospital’s emergency room as soon as possible. You may need to undergo immediate surgery for this type of shoulder pain.
